![]() Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) Highland Tech students have demonstrated success with state mandated testing. The results from last year’s (Spring 2006) are as follows, for grades 10-12: Language Arts: HTH = 77.1% proficiency (63.1% was the state’s average) Math: HTH = 54.1% proficiency (48.4 was the state’s average) ![]() HTH uses this data as one indicator, among many, to measure assessment of student progress. Standardized tests give us a “dip stick” in helping us see where our students are ranking, but are not the only measures we use. Portfolios, presentations, reports, projects, and real-life experiences are all counted towards their assessments. The first year HTH opened, our 10th grade population took the HSGQE for the first time. The 10th graders that enrolled at Highland were academically challenged upon their arrival - 54% had failed more than half of their classes at their last school. All our seniors passed the exam. Our juniors coming up for graduation in a year scored overall as follows: ![]() As you can see from the data, the students who come to HTH not only pass the required mandated testing, but the results show that our model, which is project-based, hands-on, is effective for all students in various areas. The longer the students stay at HTH, the higher they achieve, whether it is measured by standardized testing, or real-life accountability, demonstrated in their leadership, ethics, and integrity.
