** HTH PRINCIPAL ANNOUNCED **
Not many jobseekers have to present themselves to a room of 250 people, but the educators seeking the job of principal at Highland Tech High did just that recently.
Ginger Blackmon, Ed.D., demonstrated that she was the right fit to lead the charter high school in Anchorage. Dr. Blackmon, currently the principal at Seward High School, has a track record of leading programs that "reinvent" the education process. She spoke to a stakeholder assembly of students, teachers and parents at Highland last week along with three other finalists from a field of 19 candidates for the job. Her task was to address the four areas of emphasis that Highland Tech is founded upon - Accountability, Academics, Community Building and Character Development. Blackmon told the group her strength lies in building relationships within the school, the district and the broader community.
Bio
"Highland Tech High was fortunate to have had 19 well-qualified and appropriately credentialed candidates for the Principal position. We formed a search committee, interviewed all 19 candidates, and brought four finalists to a Town Hall meeting where they had the chance to interact with parents, students, and teachers.
We are pleased that Dr. Ginger Blackmon has accepted the position as Principal. Her previous experience as a Principal, enthusiasm for working with the Re-Inventing Schools Coalition Model, and strong leadership and communication skills give us great confidence that Highland will emerge as an exemplar of secondary education."
