Activities & Opportunities

Classroom Speakers
Talk with a class about a specific job, career, business, life skills and/or education. (45 minute blocks)

Business Tour
A group of students and/or educators observe workplace activities and applications of academic and technical skills. 1 - 2 hours

Job Shadowing
A student or educator observes a job to learn about a particular occupation or industry in which they are interested. (1/2 day)

Service Learning
Students perform voluntary community service, not necessarily with a career focus.

Internships
A structured learning experience for a specified period of time (usually several months) where students work to gain practical experience in a particular occupation or industry. Interns may be paid or unpaid.

Apprenticeships
Long-term structured education and training taking place primarily on the job (over several years) usually leading to certification in a specific field.

Job Applications & Mock Interviews
Employers provide instruction on application/resume preparation and conduct mock interviews with students. (45-minute blocks)

Mentoring
Serve as a role model for a student, can be short-term or a lifelong relationship, focusing on careers interests, education and life skills. Programs vary widely and can be done via e-mail, telephone, in groups or one-on-one in person.
