Think Twice Before Bringing a KnifeThe Anchorage School District strictly prohibits weapons anywhere on school property, or in the vicinity of a school sponsored event. This policy includes all knives, pocket knives, ulus, filet knives and knives traditionally used as utility tools. The safety of students and staff is a top priority and harsh penalties will be enforced. Students found with weapons, or look-alike weapons of any kind, while on school grounds, are subject to suspension or expulsion and arrest. Parents are encouraged to discuss this important issue with their children and make them clear of the dangers and consequences of taking any weapon to school or any public place.

John Hunter on the World Peace Game (video) John Hunter puts all the problems of the world on a 4'x5' plywood board -- and lets his 4th-graders solve them. At TED2011, he explains how his World Peace Game engages schoolkids, and why the complex lessons it teaches -- spontaneous, and always surprising -- go further than classroom lectures can.
